New USA series In Plain Sight
While many of the witnesses are criminals, others are innocents who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Entering the federal witness program means leaving behind everything and everyone they know, changing their identities and relocating to different part of the country (in this case, Albuquerque, New Mexico). Along with her partner Marshall Mann (Fred Weller, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, The Shape of Things) whose name really is “Marshall,” Mary must help the witnesses begin their new lives while keeping them safe. On the promo clip for the show, Mary deals with a young female witness who has been promised a boob job in return for testifying.
Meanwhile, Mary must deal with her unemployed, co-dependent mother Jinx (Lesley Ann Warren, Desperate Housewives, Will & Grace, Pure Country) and delinquent sister Brandi (Nichole Hiltz) who can’t know what Mary truly does for a living.
In Plain Sight will premiere with a 90-minute episode followed by 11 one-hour episodes. The show was created by David Maples (Home Improvement, Huff) who serves as executive producer with Paul Stupin (Dawson Creek, Beautiful People).
Also starring in the series is Paul Ben-Victor (The Wire, Entourage), as Mary and Marshall’s boss; Cristian de la Fuente (Side Order of Life, Ugly Betty), Mary’s on-off boyfriend; and Todd Williams (Tilt, Third Watch), the local police detective who she often butts heads with.
Upcoming episodes will feature witnesses including a patriarch of a relocated family who is not happy about giving up his medical practice, a religious woman whose husband’s untimely death raises questions, and a victim of gang violence, and more.
Watching the promos for this series, I think Mary Shannon definitely fits into USA Network’s catch phrase, “Characters Wanted” similar to USA Network favorite “Monk.”
In Plain Sight, produced by Universal Media Studios for USA Network, gives viewers a very rare peek into the super-secret world of the federal witness security program.
